Valerie Rose Tarazi is a Palestinian-American competitive swimmer who became one of the most internationally visible Palestinian athletes of her generation. Born in Illinois to an Orthodox Christian family with roots in Gaza, she began swimming at age three and developed into a collegiate-level competitor in the United States while choosing to represent Palestine on the international stage. Tarazi holds multiple Palestinian national records, including marks in the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, and was the standout performer for Palestine at the 2023 Arab Games in Algeria, where she won two golds, three silvers and a bronze to become the delegation's most decorated athlete.
